On May 3, 2017, President Nguyen Dinh Luan welcomed the Greek Ambassador to Vietnam, Nicolaos D. Kanellos to Hanoi University. At the reception, there were representatives from the International Office and the Academic Affairs Office.
At the meeting, President Nguyen Dinh Luan expressed his great pleasure in welcoming the Ambassador to visit the University. On this occasion, the Preseident had shared with the Ambassador the general information about the University, mentioning that Hanoi University is one of the prestigious universities in foreign languages training. Therefore, the University always prioritize cooperative relationships with foreign partners in order to provide students with opportunities to study.
For his part, Ambassador Nicolaos D. Kanellos also expressed his willingness to be a bridge between Greek universities and Hanoi University. Accordingly, the two sides can possibly cooperate in such fields as education, culture, and history, to name few. In that spirit, Ambassador Nicolaos D. Kanellos hopes that Hanoi University will be one of the first Higher Education Institutions to teach Greek language and culture in Vietnam, making the Greek language became an official training program in the future.
President Nguyen Dinh Luan concurred with the Ambassador’s proposal and said that at the moment, Hanoi University can teach Greek language short courses, which would become the second language for the Bachelor’s Degree students of the University.
On the other hand, excellent students will also be selected to come and study in Greece. Upon completion of the program, these students can return to the University and become teachers of the Greek language department in the future. In this way, the Greek could become an official training program of Hanoi University.
In order to do these things, the University needs the support from the Government and the Greek Embassy in Vietnam. At the same time, the University also needs volunteer teachers to come and teach in Vietnam for the program.
Thus, President Nguyen Dinh Luan and Ambassador Nicolaos D. Kanellos agreed on the discussed contents, and expressed their highest commitment to the cooperation, aiming to build the program in the shortest time.
Also on this visit, Ambassador Nicolaos D. Kanellos accepted the invitation of President Nguyen Dinh Luan to participate in a seminar with students of the University to introduce the Greek language and culture in the coming time.
