German Studies

Since the 1950s, the German language has been taught and learned in Vietnam. Almost 150 students and researchers annually came to Germany during that period, aiming to take intensive courses. To provide German language courses to such students prior to their trip to Germany, the German Studies Department was established pursuant to a decision signed by the Vietnamese Prime Minister in 1967. Until the 1990s, the department was the only institute of German Studies.

 

TRAINING STRUCTURE

LECTURERS 
– The Department has 18 permanent lecturers, among whom 17 lecturers hold the master level, one holds the doctoral level, and one is a researcher;
– 8 visiting lecturers hold the master degree and received overseas education;
– 100% lecturers of the Department received full-time training and annually take training programs in German or Austrian universities or institutes;
– The Department has a German Language Office granted by the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD). DAAD has been sending professors of German Studies and trainees from Germany or Austria to support teachings to the Department.       

STUDENTS
– The department has had almost 10,000 students, researchers, trainees of different levels from a foundation period till now;
– 100 students are selected annually; after 4 years training, successful students are awarded a bachelor degree of German Studies;
– Besides local experienced lecturers, students have opportunities to learn from German and Austrian professors who bring advanced pedagogical methods and their native cultures;
– The department’s students have chances of scholarships granted by DAAD and other German organizations;
– Graduate students have various internship and employment opportunities in German and Austrian organizations in Vietnam.          

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
– Thanks to a variety of exchange agreements, students have chances to participate in Summer programs in Germany;
– After graduation, students can enroll in a Master of Economics and Business Administration in the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida or a Master of German Studies in German universities
– The Office of DAAD, Hessen Culture and Language Office, Austrian Culture Office have been providing good facilities to local students and learners who yearn for delving into the native language, culture, and people.

EMPLOYMENT
– Demands for German speakers in Vietnam and other countries have been increasing;
– Graduate students have many opportunities to teach the German language inlocal universities, high schools, or to be an interpreter or translator in German companies, or to be an official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Security, etc. or in banking and tourism areas, etc.
