Portuguese Studies
The Portuguese Studies Department was founded in 2004 and has been an only institute in Vietnam that offers the full-time Portuguese Studies.
TRAINING STRUCTURE
LECTURERS
The Department has 15 lecturers who are dynamic and committed to their pedagogical career:
– 7 Vietnamese lecturers who were in Portugal or Mozambique for higher education;
– 5 visiting lecturers who are professors, doctors, master or bachelor holders in Mozambique and currently work in Embassies or Ministry of Foreign Affairs, etc.
– 3 experts from Portugal, Brazil, or Mozambique.
Besides, the Department has been a co-organizer with Embassies to hold seminars at which invited speakers are Ambassadors, Consular, Professors, Doctors from partner universities, etc.
STUDENTS
– Students are provided with a training structure approved by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Portuguese language skills are delivered in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference;
– Students are taught knowledge pertaining to the language, culture, history, etc. of CPLP; background of tourism, economics, commerce; skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing in Spanish and interpreting-translation skills;
– Students also have opportunities to take internship courses in Spanish speaking Embassies, Consulates, or Enterprises;
– Scholarship chances can be sought by the students, such as:
– One month Summer course in the University of Macau, China;
– Full one year scholarship in Mozambique that is granted by the Mozambican government;
– Full 3 month or 1 year scholarship for the language research granted by the Camões Institute, Portugal;
– Student Exchange program in accordance with agreements between Hanoi University and Portuguese and Brazilian universities;
– After graduation, students can join intensive courses, master or doctor programs in top universities of Portugal and Brazil;
– Students have opportunities to participate in outdoor activities such as the Portuguese Club, the Portuguese Culture Festival Week and other activities jointly held by the Portuguese Studies Department and Embassies/Consulates.
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
The Department has partnerships with:
– Embassies of Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Portuguese Consulate in Hanoi;
– Portuguese Embassy in Thailand;
– The University of Macau, IPOR Portuguese Institute in Macau, China;
– The University of Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, etc., Portugal;
– The University of Brasília, Camões Institute, Brazil;
– Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique Pedagogical University;
– Camões Institute, Portugal with a project of building a Portuguese Languageand Culture Center in Hanoi University.
EMPLOYMENT
Graduate students have job opportunities in:
– Foreign affairs organizations such as embassies, consulates of the Portuguese-Speaking countries or the Vietnamese Embassies in foreign countries;
– Ministries, Departments, Offices of the Communist Party, or Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Defense, etc.
– NGOs, investment projects, commercial representative offices in Mozambique or Angola such as Viettel Global or Tourist companies, etc.
– Universities/Colleges, or training centers in the Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Health, etc.
