Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium)

JOINT PROGRAM BETWEEN HANOI UNIVERSITY (VIETNAM) AND CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF LOUVAIN (BELGIUM)

MASTER OF FRENCH STUDIES          
(This programme was officially approved in accordance with the Decision No.557/QĐ-BGDĐT date 6th February 2013)
Candidates and entry requirements:
– Vietnamese applicants having recognized bachelor degrees in French studies apply at Hanoi University.
– European applicants having recognized bachelor degrees in French studies apply at Catholic University of Louvain.
– Applicants must satisfy all eligibility requirements of the master program, in accordance with Vietnamese and Belgian government regulations on post-graduate training.
Course structure:
The master program of French studies is a 2 year program, comprising 120 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). The program is divided into 3 phases:
– Phase 1: Students take 9 subjects (45 ECTS) according to the respective curriculum, constructed and delivered by the host university and recognized by the partner university.
– Phase 2: Students take 9 subjects (45 ECTS) according to the joint curriculum, constructed and delivered by both universities and at both universities’ campuses.
– Phase 3: Students complete a master’s thesis (30 ECTS). Students are allowed to have their thesis defense at either Hanoi University or Catholic University of Louvain.
Teaching language: French
Teaching faculty: Lecturers of Hanoi University and Catholic University of Louvain.
Training scale: 30 students per year.
Training location: Hanoi University (Km 9 Nguyen Trai, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi) and Catholic University of Louvain (1, Place de l’UniversitéB-1348 Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium).
Qualification: Upon completion, students will be awarded 2 master degrees – master of French studies to be conferred by Hanoi University and Master of Latin and French language and literature to be conferred by Catholic University of Louvain.
Tuition fee:
– Tuition fee for enrolled applicants at Hanoi University is VND 20,000,000 per year.
– Tuition fee for enrolled applicants at Catholic University of Louvain is VND 24,500,000 per year.
– All expenses during the study at Catholic University of Louvain, including round-way flight tickets, insurance and visa fee, living cost and other expenses are paid by students themselves.

DOCTOR OF FRENCH STUDIES
(This programme was officially approved in accordance with the Decision No. 160/QĐ-BGDĐT date 11th January 2013)
Candidates and entry requirements:
– Applicants must have a recognized master’s degree in French studies or French language and culture.
– Applicants must satisfy all eligibility requirements of the program, in accordance with Vietnamese and Belgian government regulations on doctoral training.
Course structure:
The program duration is from 3 to 5 years, divided into 3 phases:
+ Phase 1: Research students take 3 supplementary courses (equivalent to 15 ECTS) and conduct a literature review at Hanoi University.
+ Phase 2: Research students conduct 3 thematic subjects (equivalent to 45 ECTS) and other scientific activities under the instruction of the Catholic University of Louvain.
+ Phase 3: Research students conduct the doctoral thesis at both Hanoi University and Catholic University of Louvain (at least 25% research time at each university) under the co-instruction of at least 2 professors from the two universities.
Language: French
Teaching faculty: Lecturers of Hanoi University and Catholic University of Louvain.
Training scale: 10 research students per year.
Training location: Hanoi University (Km 9 Nguyen Trai, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi) and Catholic University of Louvain (1, Place de l’UniversitéB-1348 Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium).
Qualification: Upon completion, research students will be awarded 2 PhD degrees – Doctor of French Studies to be conferred by Hanoi University and Doctor of Philology to be conferred by Catholic University of Louvain.
Tuition fee: VND 15,000,000/year/research student.
All expenses during the study at Hanoi University and Catholic University of Louvain, including round-way flight tickets, insurance and visa fee, living cost and other expenses are paid by students themselves.
