English Studies

Founded in 1967, English Studies Department has been striving to become one of the HANU’s biggest language departments. The English Studies Department has been the most prestigious address of the English language delivery in Vietnam-wide.

 

 

TRAINING STRUCTURE

 

LECTURERS
– There are 80 permanent lecturers, more than 50 guest lecturers, and international visiting experts.
– More than two-thirds of lecturers receive educations in speaking countries, such as UK, Australia, USA, Canada, New Zealand. Their majors are Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Applied Language Studies, Pedagogical Administration and so forth.
– Many young lecturers have been taking post-graduate programs in Vietnam and foreign countries.

 

STUDENTS

– The number of students in the English Studies Department is more than 2,000, having enrolled in a full-time program and in-service programs.

– Thousands of students have graduated from the department to become lecturers of the English language, interpreters or translators. Many of graduates of English proficiency are employees of local and international organizations as well.

– HANU students are so active and dynamic in outdoor activities (dancing clubs, English Club (Voice of HANU), Halloween, Christmas, Cultural Festival Week of English Speaking Countries, sports contests, talks with successful businessmen, etc.).

 

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

– The training course has been updated in accordance with advanced programs in Vietnam and in the world; such programs are also recognized by international universities, such as the University of Westminster (UK), the University of Central Lancashire (UK), or the University of Dublin (Republic of Ireland);
– Full-time students can complete the final year and be awarded a Bachelor Degree in above universities after 3 successful years in HANU;
– Besides, other training courses, such as English for Academic Purposes, technical English and English for Pedagogy, are jointly organized with the United States Embassy to Vietnam, the Resource Exchange International (REI), the British Embassy to Vietnam, the British Council and the Australian Embassy to Vietnam, etc.


EMPLOYMENT

– After graduation, students can be flexible enough to be at different positions such as interpreter-translator, teacher/lecturer of English, officer, secretary/assistant, official or employee in domestic and international companies, embassies, NGOs, news agencies, etc.
–  Many graduates of HANU have been working at important offices, such as Party Central Office, National Assembly Office, Governmental Office, Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Petro Vietnam (PVN), Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam Television (VTV), Voice of Vietnam (VOV), People’s News Agency, UNDP, UNESCO, WHO, World Bank, US Embassy, British Embassy, Australian Embassy, Canadian Embassy, high-ranking universities, banks, enterprises, etc.
Training duration: 4 years.
