Hanoi University’s President joined the MOET delegation accompanying the Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam to have an official visit in Australia and New Zealand
From November 29 to December 7, 2022, President Nguyen Van Trao joined the delegation of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) accompanying the Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam to visit and work officially in Australia and New Zealand. The HANU President had multiple activities with the delegatio, met and worked with the various partners as the following details:
On November 30, 2022, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Trao and the MOET delegation worked with the Australian National University (ANU) and the Australian Ministry of Education. At the campus of the Institute of Physics, one of the most modern building of ANU, the leadership representative introduced the university and its autonomy, the relationship between the training institutions and enterprises, and especially the financing of research, commercialization of research by Australian higher education institutions.
On the same day, at the headquarters of the Australian Department of Education, a representative of the Australian Department of Education shared about the funding mechanism for research activities of higher education institutions, scholarship policy and financial support for Australian students to study at the university level and the mechanism of setting up a business in the University, or a link between large enterprises, and the University to commercialize research results, copyright protection issues inventions of higher education institutions, etc.
On December 2, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Trao attended the Vietnam – Australia Education Forum in Melbourne city (Victoria state, southern Australia). Determining that education and training cooperation is always a pillar and a “bright spot” in the friendship cooperation between the two countries, in order to prepare for the year marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2023, the two Ministries of Education and Training organized a joint education forum. The main content of the Forum organized this time focused on the following topics: The relationship between higher education institutions and enterprises, strengthening the capacity of higher education institutions through exchange of lecturers, students and research cooperation, transnational education models: opportunities and challenges, and quality assurance of education.
At the Forum, under the witness of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Mr. Goledzinowski, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Trao and representatives of the University of Canberra signed a Student Exchange Agreement. By signing this agreement, the two universities affirm their commitment to cooperation and bring the relationship between the two universities to a new level.
On the side of the Forum, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Trao had informal meetings with traditional partners of the University. The discussions focused on strengthening – expanding cooperation in the field of training, revealing that the leaders of the partner universities are interested in cooperating with HANU. On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Trao invited leaders of partner universities to visit Hanoi University the near future.

On December 5, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Trao joined the MOET delegation accompanying the National Assembly Chairman to attend the Vietnam – New Zealand Education Forum. The forum was organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Embassy of Vietnam in New Zealand, the New Zealand Education Agency and the University of Waikato. At the Forum, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue made an important speech, emphasizing on his hope for further cooperation between two nations’ universities, not only by linking education and sharing experience in university administration, but also directly opening campuses in Vietnam. The forum is also an opportunity for representatives of higher education institutions to exchange and explore bilateral cooperation opportunities.
On the side of the Forum, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Trao had a short discussion with Prof. Neil Quigley, President of the University of Waikato. The two Rectors agreed on the increasing need to support to enrollment in the joint program of Bachelor’s Degree in International Business which the two institutions have been implementing. At the same time, the research extends to the field of Information Technology and Multimedia Communication where Waikato is a strong institution in these fields. Prof. Neil Quigley accepted the invitation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Trao to visit HANU and discuss more closely solutions to enhance cooperation.
On December 6, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Trao joined the MOET delegation to work with Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand). It is ranked in the top 100 universities in the world, ranked first in New Zealand for high-quality research and is home to more than 40 research institutes, including the Center for Antarctic Studies. With over 170 optional majors, students will be equipped with practical knowledge and skills through internships and research projects.
At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Trao had a discussion with Prof. Blair McRae, Vice Chancellor for Collaborative Development at Victoria Univeristy of Wellington on possible cooperation opportunities. The two universities agreed to sign a joint cooperation agreement soon. Also at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Trao asked Victoria University of Wellington to help strengthen HANU’s staff capacity. Currently, there are two HANU staffs who study at this university under the government scholarship program and the bilateral scholarship program. On December 7, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Trao and the delegation left with successful results of the visits.
