President Nguyen Van Trao Welcomes the Former President of Chile and Signs the Cooperation Agreement with Cerro Navia District
On April 3, 2023, Ms. Michelle Bachelet Jeria – Former President of Chile along with Mr. Sergio Narea – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Chile in Vietnam, and Mr. Mauro Tamayo Rozas – Mayor of Cerro Navia District (Chile) paid a visit to Hanoi University. President Nguyen Van Trao, together with the Administrator and representatives of the International Office, the Academic Affairs Department, and the Spanish Department attended the reception.
Ms. Michelle Bachelet Jeria – Former President of Chile emotionally said that Vietnam and Chile had had a long-term relationship with deep solidarity and to affirm this, on March 25, the two countries celebrated the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. In the past, many Chilean youngsters united in protest against the unjust war to show support for the Vietnamese. When she was still the President of Chile, the two countries signed a free trade agreement which resulted in various remarkable achievements.
Ms. Michelle Bachelet Jeria emphasized that Chile’s education and culture are the most important factors in strengthening the relationship between the two countries. Therefore, she believed that the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between Cerro Navia District and Hanoi University plays a major role.
Mr. Mauro Tamayo Rozas – Mayor of Cerro Navia District specially thanked the Administrator of Hanoi University and the Spanish Department for supporting Cerro Navia District in signing the agreement. Mr. Mauro Tamayo Rozas said that the citizens of Cerro Navia District built Ho Chi Minh Park in 1969 and nowadays Cerro Navia District also had a close cooperative relationship with Nghe An and Binh Duong Province in Vietnam.
Mr. Mauro Tamayo Rozas affirmed that universities play a vital part in strengthening knowledge and training future generations; especially thanks to the exchange in academics, we can shorten the geographical distance between the two countries. Hence, Mr. Mauro Tamayo Rozas highly appreciates the cooperative relationship with Hanoi University and hopes that the contents both institutions signed are the first step for collaboration in the near future. Cerro Navia District is always ready to participate in activities aimed to promote the developing relationship between the two countries.
On behalf of the University, President Nguyen Van Trao thanked Ms. Michelle Bachelet Jeria for taking the time to visit Hanoi University. He totally agreed with Ms. Michelle Bachelet Jeria and Mr. Mauro Tamayo Rozas’s opinions. The president affirmed that this meeting is important not only to Hanoi University but also to the Vietnamese higher education system in general. He hopes that the signing event between the University and Cerro Navia District will be the motivation for both sides to continue the following 50-year journey with even more success. In particular, Hanoi University was touched to know that Cerro Navia District is the place of President Ho Chi Minh’s monument and that the University is determined to work with Cerro Navia District to actualize the contents of the signed agreement.
At the end of the meeting, President Nguyen Van Trao representing Hanoi University, and Mr. Mauro Tamayo Rozas representing Cerro Navia District signed a cooperation agreement.
Cerro Navia is one of 52 districts located northwest of the city of Santiago – the capital of Chile. The district was established in 1981 and takes its name from the hill in the south. On July 4, 2014, there was an inauguration ceremony for the Ho Chi Minh monument in Cerro Navia. This monument is placed at Ho Chi Minh Park on Herminda de la Victoria Street. This Park was built in 1969 by a group of young people belonging to the Communist Party and the Socialist Party of Chile to express solidarity and support of Chileans with the Vietnamese’s struggle for national liberation.
