Hanoi University receives the Director of the Cervantes Institute in Manila
HANU – In the morning of December 12, 2019, Dr. Pham Ngoc Thach – Chairman of the Board of Trustee and leaders of the International Office, Department of Spanish Studies warmly welcomed Mr. Javier Galván – Director of Cervantes Institute in Manila (Philippines) and Mr. Miguel Moro Aguilar – Deputy Ambassador of Spain in Vietnam.
At the reception, Mr. Javier Galván expressed his gratitude for the thoughtful welcoming of the University. Through this visit, he hopes to explore and develop opportunities for cooperation with the Department of Spanish Studies and Hanoi University’s Aula Cervantes Institute in Spanish teaching activities, organizing the DELE exam and train Spanish language instructors.
Dr. Pham Ngoc Thach – Chairman of the Board of Trustee fully agrees with the proposals of Mr. Javier Galván. According to Dr. Thach, each year the Department of Spanish sends 2-3 excellent students to do their internship at the Spanish Embassy. However, in order to attract more students interested in the Spanish labor market, in addition to cooperating with the Embassy, the University also needs to connect more with Spanish businesses.
Dr. Pham Ngoc Thach affirmed that as the first university to teach Spanish language in Vietnam, Hanoi University guarantees to become a training institution of high-quality teaching and training teachers of this language. Currently, the lecturers at the University’s Spanish Department are fully qualified to work as translators to promote Spanish culture and literature to Vietnamese readers.
For the organization of the DELE exam to assess international Spanish proficiency at the Cervantes Institute, approximately 50 candidates take part every year, of which students from the Spanish Department of Hanoi University account for two-third, the development orientation in the coming time is the need to increase the number of candidates so that both sides would able to upgrade from the Institute to the Center, thereby attracting more students to learn Spanish language training at Hanoi University.
