Hanoi University opens the postgraduate training course under the joint Master’s Programme in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MTESOL) between Hanoi University and Canberra University (Australia).
On the morning of February 20 at Hanoi University, the Opening Ceremony of Postgraduate Training Class – Stage 1 of the Master Program in Master of Theory and Teaching Methods in English and Foreign Language was held. Hanoi University and the University of Canberra. Attending the ceremony were representatives of the school, departments, faculties, departments and lecturers who participated in the program teaching, along with 26 new students.
Mr Nguyen Tien Dung, Acting Director of Academic Affairs Department, on behalf of the university council, announced the decision of matriculation and the opening speech of the new course. Mr Nguyen Tien Dung sent his congratulations to all the new students for their efforts to achieve high results in the last enrollment and encouraged the participants to fully participate in learning and research activities during the upcoming period of the training programme.
In response, Pham Phuong Linh, who achieved the highest score in the entrance exam, represented the students to express their pride when attending one of most prestigious MATESOL programmes and expressed the hope that through the course, they will have the opportunities to improve their knowledge to better support their teaching. “Although we may have the same reason to enrol in this course, each of us has our own story to tell about our own passions. Please keep those passions and try to think about what we can do to have as much knowledge as well as experience when joining this course “, according to Linh.
The central goal of the MATESOL programme is to provide an integrated programme that trains international quality human resources with the skills needed to perform professional activities based on scientific foundations. The course will equip learners with in-depth knowledge of language teaching and focus on the combination of theoretical elements and practical perspectives. Students will be allowed to participate in seminars and workshops with small class sizes. Thus, learners can complete the Master’s program in the most effective way according to their wishes.
The joint programme of Master of Theory and English and foreign language teaching between the University of Canberra and Hanoi University consists of two phases. After completing Stage I (Graduate Diploma in TESOL) within 7 months, students will be granted a Postgraduate Diploma by Hanoi University. After completing Phase II (Master of TESOL & FLT) within 1 year, students will be awarded a Master’s Degree in TESOL by Canberra University. The whole programme is taught in English. The curriculum, the training quality of the programme is directly managed by the University of Canberra in accordance with international standards on learning materials and facilities. Students with a university degree in other majors will be required to study a conversion programme developed by Hanoi University. Upon successful completion of the transition program, students with sufficient credits and expertise gain will be eligible for the Graduate Fostering programme, under the Master’s Degree programme between Hanoi University and the University of Canberra (Australia).
