Vietnam – Italy: Bolstering bilateral ties.

On March 20, 2017, the Embassy of Italy to Vietnam and Hanoi Unversity’s Department of Italian Studies has organized the Workshop on “Italia and European Dream”.

The workshop is a series of events commemorating the 44th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Italy (23/3/1973 – 23/3/2017), and 60 years of signing the Treaty of Rome, establishing the European Economic Community (25/3/1957 – 25/3/2017). This is an opportunity for students to extend their understanding of European Union (EU), the role of Italy in EU, and Italy’s efforts in the process of European integration, contributing to the strengthening of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Attending the event, there was the presence of H.E. Mrs. Cecilia Piccioni, Italian Ambassador to Vietnam and Mr. Martino Melli, Director of the Development Cooperation Agency at the Italian Embassy in Vietnam; Mr. Nguyen Van Nam, President of Vietnam-Italy Friendship Association, representatives of leaders, lecturers and students of Hanoi University.

Speaking at the Workshop, Mrs. Cecilia Piccioni highly underlined the importance of the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome and efforts of Italy in tightening cooperation within the European Union, aiming to pursue common goals. 60 years is a long journey with countless success and failures, and with the current crisis, European countries need to join hand and do more to overcome the challenges and the effect of globalization. Italy will always be willing to support the peace, liberty, and development of Europe.

The workshop also mentioned mutual prominent achievements of the two countries recently in different fields with development goals in the future. Italy always yearns to promote the spirit of prosperity and cooperation with Vietnam. Since the establishment of the Strategic Partnership 2013, the relation between Vietnam and Italy has reached to a new level, becoming more closer throughout exchange activities and the visits of high-level delegations on the abundance of fields, like Commerce, Security, Justice, Culture, Education, Science, and Environment.

The Department of Italian Studies – Hanoi University is the pioneer in promoting Italian language and culture in Vietnam, also, an important partner of the Embassy of Italy in Hanoi. The collaboration between the two sides has greatly contributed to the deepening of the friendship between the two countries, solidating the bilateral tie in the future
